It all started with a bet in a London cinema...
In early 2017, co-founders Alexander Chen (film producer) and Marcus Valtteri (former Goldman Sachs quant) made a £500 bet on whether Get Out would outperform expectations.
Alex won the bet. Marcus lost — but realized there was no transparent, global platform where film lovers could actually put money behind their predictions. Two weeks later, they sketched the first version of Universal Film Horizon on a napkin at the Curzon Soho.
The private beta launched in June 2017 with just 12 films and 87 users. By December 2017, our community correctly predicted the breakout success of Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards — delivering the first-ever 400%+ returns in film staking history.
